Tournament Information

Roland Garros is the second Grand Slam of the tennis calendar and the only one played on red clay. Held annually at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris over the final week of May and the first week of June, the men's singles draw features 128 players competing across seven rounds of best-of-five-set matches.

The clay surface gives Roland Garros a distinctive character. Heavy topspin, deep court positioning, sliding footwork and patient point construction are all central to the tournament. Rafael Nadal's record fourteen titles between 2005 and 2022 defined a generation of the event, and his retirement has left the men's draw genuinely open again. Other multiple finalists in the recent era include Novak Djokovic, with his clay-court game built on flexibility, defence and tactical depth, and Stan Wawrinka, whose 2015 victory remains one of the great one-handed-backhand performances in the modern game.

First-round matches start across the outside courts and on Court Philippe-Chatrier, the main stadium, which seats just over 15,000 spectators and features a retractable roof installed in 2020. Night sessions run under floodlights on Chatrier from the second round onwards. The draw progresses to the round of sixteen on the middle weekend, quarter-finals on the Tuesday and Wednesday, semi-finals on the Friday, and the men's singles final on the second Sunday.
